On this page are spectrograms of sample calls produced by mice during male-female interactions. Normally, female calls in this context sound to human ears like squeaks, while male calls are so high in frequency that they are inaudible. These calls have been slowed down by 17-20 times, so that the female calls sound like 'wookiee' calls, and the male calls sound like whistles. In some call files there are also transient rustles of the bedding as the mice move around. Audio recordings were made using an Avisoft Bioacoustics microphone and software.
