I am interested in how context and memory influence sensory perception. I am currently studying how social memory influences responses to nonspecific auditory cues and the role of serotonin as a neuromodulator in mediating those responses. I would like to investigate these questions using electrophysiological and behavioral techniques.

My interests revolve around how internal state can affect how animals perceive and process contextual stimuli. I am very interested in incorporating an understanding of the neuroendocrine aspects of how animals respond to potential stressors, specifically during social interactions. Eventually I would like to broaden my work to include a focus on laboratory animal welfare, specifically how environmental enrichment may affect perception and communication.
Currently, my project focuses on how the “internal” context of social hierarchical status of male mice in addition to the “external” context of unfamiliar male cues affect how males perceive and respond to female rejection calls
